A leaking toilet is one of the most wasteful plumbing problems in a home. Unlike a visible dripping tap, many toilet leaks are silent — water seeping slowly from the cistern into the bowl, running continuously without you noticing. The result is a water bill that keeps climbing with no obvious cause.
Wattle Plumbing & Gas fixes leaking toilets across Caloundra, Aura, Kawana Waters and the wider Sunshine Coast. Jay carries the most common cistern parts and replacement components, so most jobs are completed in a single visit. If the toilet is beyond economical repair, Jay can supply and install a new suite at a competitive price.
A running toilet wastes between 60–200 litres per day. Over a 90-day billing quarter, that's 5,400–18,000 extra litres on your water bill — before a single toilet has been flushed. On Sunshine Coast water tariffs, this can add $30–$80 or more per quarter.
Water continuously running into the bowl after flushing. Usually a faulty flush valve seal or flapper. One of the most common — and wasteful — toilet problems.
Toilet refills briefly on its own without being flushed. Caused by water seeping slowly from the cistern into the bowl through a worn flush valve seal.
The inlet valve fills the cistern after flushing. When it fails, the cistern overfills or takes too long to fill. Replaced with a quality aftermarket or OEM part.
Water or odour leaking from the base of the toilet or from the connection between pan and soil pipe. The rubber seal degrades over time and needs replacing.
Visible water pooling at the base of the toilet or around the cistern. A hairline crack in the porcelain is a replacement job — Jay can supply and install a new suite.
Dual-flush buttons that stick, don't return, or keep flushing. The flush mechanism can usually be replaced without changing the whole cistern.
The food dye test: Put a few drops of food colouring in the cistern (not the bowl). Wait 15 minutes without flushing. If the colour appears in the bowl, your flush valve is leaking. You can also check your water meter — note the reading, don't use any water for 30 minutes, and check again. Any movement means a leak somewhere in your home.

"Our water bill had crept up significantly and we couldn't work out why. Jay came out, found a silent toilet leak within 10 minutes and replaced the cistern internals on the spot. Bill was back to normal the next quarter."Rob & Sarah K. — Kawana Waters
