Caravan Gas Compliance — What You Need to Know

In Queensland, any caravan or motorhome with an LPG gas system must have a valid gas compliance certificate before it can be sold, hired out, or registered in some states. A licensed gas fitter must inspect and certify the system — not just anyone.

Jay holds a Gas Work Licence (GWL L95429) and inspects and certifies caravan LPG systems across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay. If repairs or modifications are needed to bring your van up to standard, we can do that work on the spot or as a separate job.

What We Inspect & Certify

LPG Cylinders & Connections

Cylinder condition, regulator, POL connections, hoses, fittings and leak testing. Ensuring connections are compliant and leak-free.

Gas Appliances

Cooktop, oven, hot water heater, space heater and any other gas appliances inside the van — burner condition, ignition and safe operation.

Gas Pipework

Internal gas lines, fittings, flexible connections and pipework routing. Checking for leaks, damage or non-compliant installations.

Ventilation & Clearances

Appliance ventilation, clearances to combustibles, flue condition (where applicable). A common compliance failure in older vans.

Pressure Testing

Full pressure test of the system to identify any leaks that may not be visible. Required as part of the compliance certification process.

Certificate Issued

Upon passing inspection, we issue a compliance certificate you can use for sale, hire or registration purposes. Repairs carried out if required.

When is a Caravan Gas Certificate Required?
  • Selling a caravan, motorhome or camper trailer with an LPG system
  • Renting or hiring out a caravan to others
  • Registration transfer (required in some states)
  • Insurance claim or renewal (some insurers require a current certificate)
  • After any gas repairs or modifications to the system
  • Buying a used van — recommended before your first trip
Repairs & Modifications

If your van doesn't pass inspection, we can carry out the required repairs or modifications on the spot or schedule a follow-up. Common issues include failed hoses, leaking connections, non-compliant appliances and missing ventilation. We'll give you a clear, honest assessment before we start any work.

Caravan Gas FAQs

In Queensland, a gas compliance certificate is required when selling a caravan or motorhome with an LPG system. It confirms the system was inspected and certified by a licensed gas fitter. Without one, you may be liable if the buyer experiences a gas-related incident.
A standard caravan gas compliance inspection takes approximately 1–2 hours depending on the complexity of the LPG system and the number of appliances. If repairs are needed, additional time will be required.
We come to you. Jay can inspect your caravan at your home, at a caravan park, or at any location across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay. Just let us know the address when you book.
We'll give you a clear written list of what needs to be rectified. In many cases we can carry out the repairs on the spot. Once repairs are complete and the system is reinspected, we can issue the compliance certificate.
A gas compliance certificate in Queensland does not expire — it records that the system was compliant at the date of inspection. However, any subsequent gas work must be re-certified, and for hire/rental purposes, regular inspections are recommended.
